



CADRE's Parent Capacity Building program currently consists of the following pilot projects:
CADRE's Education Empowerment Academy is a six-week, family-based course to develop the self-advocacy skills of South LA parents and children in their schools.
The Academy's overall goals are to:
-- Empower parents with communication tools;
-- Empower parents with tools to reach self-actualization in their lives as parents;
-- Re-define the teacher-parent relationship through new parent behaviors; and
-- Create a team of 16-20 parents who will emerge as mentors for other parents.
Through six weekly sessions, parents and their children will emerge with:
-- Report card monitoring schedules
-- Concrete strategies for negotiating effectively with teachers and administrators
-- Schedules for classroom visits and parent-teacher communication
-- Ability to engage each other in critical thinking
-- Goal-oriented communication habits
